Hello everyone! I’m Sonia Carrillo, a mother, wife, teacher, jewelry designer, and a new blogger! I have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education, and have been an elementary school teacher for over ten years. I am also a former Ford model and was signed with the agency for both the fashion and commercial print division for many years. Once I had my daughter, I got really consumed with being a working mom and put modeling to the side, although I really do miss it.
My vision for Onyx and Faith is endless! For quite some time I have desired to find a creative outlet to express myself through writing, but I just kept putting it off. You know, “busy mom syndrome.” I have always enjoyed writing papers for school (I know, strange right?) and journal writing. I also love to inspire and help other women in any capacity I can, whether it’s simply being a listening ear, lending a helping hand, giving words of encouragement, praying for others, or providing my bony shoulder for someone to cry on. After praying about it for several months, and feeling peace to move forward with this website, I created Onyx and Faith, a lifestyle inspirational blog, as a place to document the things I enjoy most such as writing, jewelry designing, fashion, beauty, and so much more.
My true passion and joy in life besides being a mom, wife, and teaching children is inspiring, mentoring, and encouraging women. My vision is to take you on a journey with me where we can girl talk together about beauty and fashion, get serious together about family, friendship, relationships, love, and life. But most importantly, be able to discuss Jesus and the word of God openly and freely, as well as anything else that will help us uplift and empower one another to grow into our greatest potential in our faith together. Before I close, many of you might be thinking about what the meaning behind the name Onyx and Faith is, and where it came from. The onyx is a beautiful elegant stone that represents beauty, wisdom, and strength in the bible. Faith represents complete trust or confidence in someone or something, which is how I choose to walk and live my life by. I love creating jewelry using onyx stones and pearls, and the bible says that the just shall live by faith (Hebrews. 10:38), so I combined the two words together since I felt they complimented each other best and here I am today! I am so grateful to be on this journey of life with you and I thank you in advance for your love, prayer, encouragement, and support.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
With love, hope, and faith,
